A Re-Cap of Project Blog So Far

by kate baggott on January 11th, 2008

It’s time to break out the lucky charms. We’re in week 7 of project blog. In fact, you can still vote for me in this week’s poll, but for the record, my money’s on Sally for this two-part challenge.

So far, my posts have crammed in as many of the requirements as possible, but there’s enough happening my entry for this week already. Besides, it’s time for a re-cap of this soap opera, this extended play-off game, this epic adventure in which I am Lara Croft (because that is how I want it, OK).

So far, in Project Blog:

My entry took the week one competition. Both one reader/voter and I won a bracelet from the Ecoist, no one was eliminated and everyone was happy.

In week two, things started getting dramatic. The good news is that I won an e-cookbook by Gillian Pollack. The bad news is that Randi’s Brad Pitt Watch was eliminated from the competition. It was a decision that shook my understanding of the blogosphere. In my experience celebrity blogs always come out on top because of the delicious use of pictures, the crowds of hysterical fans and, let’s face it, how can anything bad happen to something related to Brad Pitt? Naturally, Randi’s blog is still the place where women go for a daily drool.

Weeks three and four were combined to create a two-part challenge. Both Jodie and I used pictures of beautiful people to get voters to support us, but they weren’t beautiful enough to distract Winnie’s legions of fans. Winnie at Watching the View won the challenge and took home the Solay Wellness bath salts that I really, really wanted. TV of the Absurd, written by the always entertaining Cynthia Boris was eliminated due, mostly, to scheduling conflicts. I still drop by Cynthia’s blog from time to time just to gape at the fantastic new magazine lay out and design.

The week five challenge was insanely competitive, which is surprising because it was about New Year’s Resolutions and I explained why I need to learn how to chill out a little. I won an astrology mini reading from Beth. The Colorada Review was eliminated from the competition at this point, which is too bad because its writer, Kara, really knows how to pack a lot of fact into her enthusiasm for her home state. Plus, the infusion of fresh mountain air her blog brings with it helps me stick to that “relax, now!” resolution I made.

I revealed my tattoo, but it couldn’t save Allison from the changing nature of the blogging business. Half-way through the week six challenge, the competition moved to Allison’s sports blog at BCS Frenzy. It’s an appropriate move. The competition has become more than sport. It’s a virtual contact sport. Mark at Get Incensed called me ruthless and crafty. I’m thinking of setting Mark up with my friend Solomother. I know she’s very popular, but I am sure she needs a guy with a sense of humor.

Week seven is the second part of the challenge outlined in week six. Sally at Stylefix and I are both giving Winnie a run for her money in the voting polls and readers who comment on the voting post this week (plus one other post on the site), will be entered to win a one year subscription to ESPN Magazine.

The remaining competitors are:

<>1. Winnie, Watching the View: “They’d probably I rather watched Garfield”
2. Sally, Style Fix: “Bail Ling’s Got Nothing On Me”
3. Jodie, Gossip on Sports: “The Couple that Watched Baseball Together…”
4. Kate, Babylune: “Babylune’s Birthday Bonanza Contest”
5. Mark, Get Incensed, “The Most You’ll Ever Get” We are competing for:

You can influence the outcome by voting in the poll before noon on Tuesday.
