An Update from A Single Mom
When this blog was just a newborn, I asked readers who happen to be single mothers for advice. This was before Solomother was the rockingest single-parent blogger on the block. As part of that posting project, I conducted an email interview with fellow B5 blogger Gloria. Well, Gloria has recently reached a milestone: her son is almost 5 and she sent me this update about how their little family is doing:
Love is all the answer, even for single moms! Gloria reports.
- My son will be turning 5 next month. He still doesn’t have a father. He doesn’t ask for it either. I think my son understands that since he never had one when he was still in the womb, he will not miss what he never had right?
- Or maybe because that he felt so loved ever since, love not only from me but from my parents and my 3 brothers. I mean, even he had two parents and if one is not emotionally available, I wouldn’t trade that for what my son and I have now.
- My son is almost five and has been going to pre-school for the second year now and I feel that the most difficult part of being a single mother is over. I know it isn’t because my son has yet to go through the difficult teen years, it’s just that the first three years we were living alone and I used to work was awful. It is only when I decided we will move back to parents’ house that everything fell into place.
- My parents were ecstatic that we are living with them. In turn my son got all the attention and less load on my shoulder. I can even socialize like to go parties or date even date – it is my choice not to. I am happy staying at home and working at home. (I have 4 paid blogs at the moment, who’s saying that’s not work?!)
- Because my son is loved by my family (his grandparents and 3 doting-spoiling uncles!), I feel loved too. So much that I don’t feel I am lacking a partner in life. If somebody comes along in the future, why not? I’d be thankful. But if nobody comes our way, I’m fine with that too.
- So, there’s no reason to go anywhere and party the whole night looking for some lovin’.
- Right here, right now I feel complete already.
I would like to congratulate Gloria and her son on making a beautiful family.

Single moms amaze me, they always have. Their strength is beyond anything I can comprehend. Some of the greatest people I know were raised by single moms. Great post!
