Babies Love Novelty
My husband’s cousin from Bulgaria arrived for a visit last night. He has two daughters who are teenagers now, but he still knows how to charm a baby girl. He played with our daughter, showing her all kinds of new tricks with jumping and flying and making noises.
And she threw her head back and laughed and laughed.
“She never laughs like that with us,” I thought. We get lots of smiles and giggles, but not deep belly laughs.
I caught my husband’s eye and realised he was thinking the same thing.
As happy as we are that the baby instantly liked her relative (they hadn’t met before), we were instantly jealous. I consider myself an open and loving person, so having this response really surprised me.
“He just has new games,” I thought. “Babies love novelty.”
I dismissed my reaction, but still…
Do you ever get jealous when your baby shows appreciation and affection to other relatives and friends, or is it just us?
