Because Holidays are about Families
SlackerMommy and Nancy Lee have a secret Santa who is about to be revealed.
Nancy wrote a post detailing the necessary role of a CASA in many children’s lives and outlined the duties of these Court Appointed Special Advocates in working to prevent child abuse and neglect. She appealed to others to volunteer in this important role. SlackerMommy, who has the same agenda, wrote a passionate post about the Family Resource Center and their role in preventing child abuse for the Generous December Group Writing Project.
It wasn’t difficult to find someone who supports your efforts to address the causes of child abuse and try to prevent it. Nancy, SlackerMommy, your cause is one that got under our skin and went directly to our hearts. You have a secret Santa who wanted to show you she cares too. Your secret Santa is The Other Mother:
Or rather, your secret Santa is author Gwendolen Gross, the reigning queen of women’s adventure fiction, who wrote the fantastic novel The Other Mother.
There has been a buzz surrounding The Other Mother both in the blogosphere and in print because of the novel’s huge relevance to modern motherhood in addition to the fact that it is simply an exciting read.
After reading SlackerMommy’s post, Gwendolen said:
“All families need support, and some families are lucky enough to have it at the ready in the form of friends and other family members. But when there is a cycle of abuse, parenting is more of a challenge. We need to support families at risk through organizations like Family Resource Center so all children–and parents–get the help they need.”
Being up for an adventure, Gwendolen made a $30 donation to the Family Resource Center. Consider it a present to SlackerMommy and Nancy in thanks for their participation in the Generous December Group Writing Project. And to everyone who cares about preventing child abuse, happy holidays from The Other Mother.

You have made my day! I have goosebumps on my skin and tears in my eyes. Thank you Kate and Gwendolen! I recently finished reading The Other Mother and loved it. What a bonus to have the author support my chosen charity. Thank you so much for helping these families and their at risk children. Merry Christmas!

This is such a wonderful surprise! I can’t thank you enough! I have goosebumps! I’m so excited. The local CASA just had a swearing in of a new group of volunteers. I think they will be so thrilled to know they have been so honored. Merry Christmas to All… and to all a good life…
