Behind the Stroller? Pushing the Pram?
The one thing I am certain I do properly, is make sure that the baby gets at least one good walk a day. Even if it is cold or raining (I am Canadian, I wait for no weather).
That said, walking and pushing the stroller isn’t get me back into shape. I find this is a bit shocking. When I wore one of those “ten thousand steps a day” pedometers, I found out that I generally take 10,000 steps before 11 a.m.
According to an article in UK’s The Guardian, walking can be a fitness and weight loss program, if you do it properly. Here are some tips I gleaned from the story:
- Incorporate 10-minute sprints of fast walking into your daily plan
- To lose weight, you probably need to take at least 16,000 steps per day
- Climbing hills or walking challenging terrain will increase calories burned
- Walking on mud, sand or grass burns more calories than walking on pavement
- Walking on cobblestones or rocky ground may have more benefits. Physiologists at the Oregon Research Institute found that walking on cobblestones — an activity rooted in Eastern medicine — leads to improved blood pressure and physical balance.
Now, all I need is an all-terrain pram with really big wheels…and possibly mud flaps. Anyone care to make a recommendation?
