Cadbury Recall Now?

by Eliza on September 29th, 2008

I’m so thankful right now that it is close to Halloween and not Easter.  Early this morning Cadbury began recalling 11 different types of chocolates. Eeek, right? I know this isn’t about babies, but the recall is due to the melamine in it. For those that may not know this is what is in the baby formula that has everyone worrying over in China. You know the whole China’s tainted milk scare that has now moved from baby formula to hurting animals at the zoo.

Those chocolates were only sold in Hong Kong and do not affect Cadbury’s candy stocked in the United States.

Officials from Pennsylvania-based Hershey and New Jersey-based Mars reaffirmed their candies were safe to eat on Monday.

The Hershey Co. said it has never purchased milk ingredients, including powdered milk, from China.

Mars North America released a statement saying its Chinese operations do not get any ingredients from companies found to be selling melamine-contaminated dairy products. Chinese food-safety agency tested samples of Mars China’s milk powder suppliers and found them to be free of melamine. Mars makes Snickers and M&Ms. Hershey makes Hershey’s Kisses and Reese’s brands.

As of right now it looks as if our chocolate is safe in the US, but not sure for how long. Hopefully they get this cleared up fast. The babies in China need nourishment, the animals need to eat and no one wants to worry about chocolate near the holidays.
