Charity Campaign Spotlight: RAWA
Babylune’s Mothering Sunday to Mothers’ Day Charity Campaign started on March 18th and runs until May 13. This is the first of a three-part series of posts highlighting the three charities selected for the campaign. The charity with the most votes as chosen by readers voting in the poll, will recieve $1 for every 1000 page views served up during the campaign.

The first charity in the spotlight is RAWA or the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afganistan.
Afghanistan has been at war for 30 years and RAWA has existed that entire time. I first heard of the org during the Taliban era when female doctors, nurses, and mid-wives could no longer work and women couldn’t seek medical attention unless accompanied by their husbands, fathers or sons. In the cases of women and girls who had been widowed or otherwise left alone, that meant no medical attention at all. Afghanistan became one of the worst places on the planet to be or become a mother. We know this because of RAWA’s members. They are the women who smuggled video cameras under their burquas and told the world the truth about the Taliban regime and its inhumane treatment of women. The organization’s Amazon wish list still contains digital cameras, video cameras and other tools for global communication.
RAWA’s scope is much broader than that seen through a camera lens. They have built orphanages, medical clinics and schools.
