Controversial Conversation: Mistresses & Martyrs

by kate baggott on July 13th, 2007

The nice thing about writing a blog is that while I might write posts in the heat of the moment, comments can come whenever it is relevant to the reader. The conversation in the post about giving birth and losing your libido is worth re-visiting.

It’s interesting that equal numbers of men and women worry that they will never get their groove back once the babies arrive.

One commenter recommended a mistress while another points to his wife’s lack of attention after giving birth as the start of a relationship turning abusive toward him. What do you think of these various concerns and issues?

While I can’t say my sex life is anything like it was prior to having children, I can say that the desire is back. It took a long time, but it is back and, you know, I don’t think its back to save my marriage. I think its back because my sexuality is an essential part of who I am. It just had to be shoved aside while I learned how to manage all the extra work of becoming a mother as well as everything else.

I hope that it comes back to all of you too. And I do hope it doesn’t take you the better part of two years.
