Daycare Charged with Shaken Baby

by Eliza on June 28th, 2008

A daycare center, Lovable Little People Day Care, down in Olathe, Kansas has been formally charged after a baby boy was hurt at her center, in her care.  The baby boy appears to have been shaken, shaken to the point that he is now recovering at home with blindless and a number of other problems. This case is still being investigated since the owner, Julie Lynne Christlieb, does have 10 kids in her day care a day. This is not something they want to chance and for good reason.

The little 7-month-old boy spent a week in the children’s hospital and will now have much longer to recover from his injuries.

I wanted to take a moment to go over the whole Shaken Baby Syndrome, it isn’t a joke, these things happen every day. Someone gets upset that a baby won’t stop crying or walking around when they want them to sleep. If you find yourself ever feeling frustrated or angry find someone you trust to come over and give you a break. It is better to add someone else to the care then to hurt someone so small.

1 opinion for Daycare Charged with Shaken Baby

I have a two year old of my own, who has been in daycare. This woman seems to already have been handed a guilty sentence by the media. Some serious facts are being ommitted. Medical research has proven that victims of “shaken baby syndrome” can show symtoms of the act up to 1-4 days afterwards. How can a day/place be determined to be the cause so quickly? Believe me, I am an advocate for our children’s safety, but all of the reports I have seen have condemned this woman beyond a doubt. Perhaps this baby had a pre-existing condition? How do we know that this baby was already able to crawl and walk? History shows that many innocent people have been accused of “shaken baby syndrome” because they were the LAST person to be in contact with an infant. Easy person to blame, but in fact, it’s not always the right assumption. I think we should hear the facts of the case, get Ms. Christlieb’s side of the story, and then make our decisions. She has operated a licensed daycare without incident for over 6 years. I watched the video of the baby’s father, and was mortified to see him casually talking about the incident with a smile on his face. If my son had just spent a week in the hospital, and was still suffering such awful ailments, I think I’d be shedding a tear, maybe even showing a little sadness. I think we all need to remember that we are innocent until proven guilty. Maybe if people did a little research as well, they’d find that there are several reasons a baby would show symptons of SBS, and there are a lot of factors that could influence those. Did the child just receive immunizations? If a baby is not completely healthy, immunizations can have a dramatic affect on the baby’s neurological functions. Let’s just step back, wait for Ms. Christlieb’s side of the story, and not condemn her, simply because she was providing care for what may have been a very sick baby to begin with. It’s the American way.
