by Eliza on July 5th, 2008

Huggies Pull-Ups knows how hard it is to train those babies and they know how much money we, as parents tend to spend on diapers just to get them potty trained. So, Huggies is sponsoring Babylune with this giveaway, where two winners will get a Potty Training Success Packages. They’ve sent me my own Potty Training package, which I’ll review later this week, but lets start off by saying you get diapers, a DVD and a surprise for your little one.

bigkidcentraldvd

For those that may not remember my post a month ago, celebrity star, Melissa Joan Hart is in the process of potty training her son Mason. She’s even keeping an online journal of her experience right on the Pull-Ups site. Stop by and see what she’s trying to do to help him out. But don’t forget you can also swing by Big Kid Central and check out all the potty training advice they’ve got online for you. You can order your own free, “Potty Training DVD” now.

when it came time to train my daughter the only thing that worked was knowing she wasnt able to go into the big girls “two year old room” at her day care. I tried big girl panties, rewards, nothing worked untill then. Now my son Im hoping it will be alot easier! I would like to try the cool alert trainers, almost 10 years ago they had just basic pull ups!

With our son we tried about every method there was, charts, letting him do it on his own, you name it. Eventually he just decided it was time on his own and has been good ever since. With our daughter we used the “Big brother is using the potty” method. She actually has potty trained herself, she’s just still too little to get on the potty by herself. If I win I would like the Night-Time pull-ups.

It’s been a long time since I’ve had to potty train a child and I guess I tried all the usual things. I had four and the last one basically “trained” herself as I was kinda tired of it all by then. :-) They seem to figure it out when they are ready.
Now my youngest dd is about to start her son. If I win, I will give this prize to her.

my daughter isn’t quite to potty training age yet, but i plan on putting her on the toilet every time she goes, even if she’s already wet a daiper. that should convey the idea and keep her from going on herself because its easier. but we’ll see how that actually works in practice!

When I go to the restroom I ask my son if he needs to go. He is getting more comfortable sitting on his little potty but we have yet to have any actual use of it.

Cheerio’s in the potty works really well! Tell them to aim :) This only works for boys, of course. I’d like the night-time pullups.

I’ve found that they really need to relax. Reading a book to them while they sit there works for me.

My daughter potty trained herself. My son is not going for it. Not even with special toys he can only play with on the potty. Not stickers, not books, nothing. I’d like the nighttime pullups so we don’t have to change our sons diapers late at night to prevent leakage.

Bribery. We used M & M’s. If he went potty he got 1 M & M. Believe it or not, he trained very easily. Of course, he has a sweet tooth and doesn’t get candy very often, so this was special.

When my oldest dd potty trained, daycare gave out an m7m whenever she was successful and that worked. Youngest dd gets dora fruit snacks, but it is not working so well for her. We would like to try the Nighttime pullups.

When it came to my first son the only thing that worked was waiting until he was ready to do it on his own. Otherwise the more I pushed it the more he didn’t want to do it.

My second is a month away from two and I am just getting ready to pull out the little potty again and see if he has any interest yet so I could definitely use a potty training kit!

From the website I like the Cars learning designs pull-ups :)

We’ve tried everything. He is able to potty on command. He just doesn’t want to stop what he is doing to go on his own. I don’t recommend putting on the undies before they are ready. Cleaning up poopy underwear is dreadful. And it hasn’t worked here.

We just bought lots and lots of underwear, sheets, laundry detergent and small reward (stickers, m&ms, etc). We dedicated a weekend to potty training and just went full throttle. It worked.

I don’t know. I’m still trying to get my 2.5 yr old son to sit on the potty. I do wish they had some that were appropriate for kids who are a bit bigger than average. My son is tall and just doesn’t look comfortable on the potty chairs. I’d love to try the cool alert, since I think it would help to motivate him to stay dry.

We potty trained our cat a few years ago to use the toilet. Our daughter had no problem getting used the toilet, because she wanted to do what her kitty Samantha was already doing. By the way, we do sterilize our toilet with rubbing alcohol before using.

No pressure, no scolding/disappointment at mistakes, lots of praise with every success. I’m convinced there’s very little we can do as parents to coerce a child into using the toilet–but there are lots of ways we can make it more difficult/upsetting.

I am currently trying to train my 3 year old son. I have told him every time he is dry and then goes on the potty he gets a penny for his bank. He gets so excited about that. I have to remind him often to go but usually he’s already gone. He won’t go #2 at all on the potty. I’ve told him I will buy him any toy he wants when he goes #2 on the toilet like I did with my daughter. He is excited but doesn’t want to go on the potty for #2. I know eventually he will but it gets aggravating. I wanted him trained before vacation next month but I think I will keep being persistent and then see what happens.

We tried a variety of methods.
    1) Taking him to the potty every hour.
    2) Clapping, singing, dancing when he went.
    3) Reading potty books.
    4) Watching the Blue’s Clues potty video.
    5) Encouragement from his older sister.
    6) Wearing underwear and letting him feel the pee.
    7) Buying special character underwear.

He was so determined that he was not going to poo in the potty. I kept telling him how happy it would make him and finally one day he did it. He said, “Mommy, you so happy?!?” After that, we had no problems. It was so great!

He’s doing pretty good now, but we still use pull-ups when we go on trips and at night.

    Forgot to add:

    8) We started giving him a Chuck E Cheese token every time he used the potty. He would put them in his cup and then we’d take him to Chuck E Cheese when he got enough of them. He said, “I poop in the potty and go to Chuck E Cheese!”. lol

guess I am mean, because I bought a potty when my child was born and let him see the potty from day 1- he saw us go- left the doors open to see us go on the bigger, but he was out of diapers by 1 1/2..now starting with grandkids and nieces

I’ve tried rewarding my daughter for using the potty(which did not work.)Eventually I learned that forcing the issue only makes it take longer. Just keep a nonchalant attitude twoard it, and they will come around when they are ready.

I’d like to try the learning designs. Thanks so much for the opportunity.

My older daughter was almost 4yrs old and I could not get her to go on the potty she just liked the diaper! I just got tired of it I had tried every thing so every time she went in her pants a toy went to the basement if she went on the potty a toy came back! She was going on the potty with-in 2 days! Different things work for different kids!
My younger daughter setting a potty in the middle of the living room (so she did not have to leave her toys) did the trick! She was potty trained at 1.

When my kids were training, I’d sit them down on the potty, and I’d get down in front of them, asking them if they could make it rain. Pretending they would and could make it rain by listening for it. It works. I’d like to try the nite time pullups.

With my daughter, who was all potty trained at 15 months, I let her (in the house only) play with no diaper on. Since we had hard wood floors it was no big deal. She only had a accident a couple times. Now I have little boy. I really don’t know how to train him!

My daughter has just turned 3 and we have been potty training for a few months now with no success. At first I tried stickers, praise, let her pick out her own big girl panties….nothing. Now everytime she pees in the potty she gets two m&m’s and this actually seems to be working better than anything. She loves m&m’s and this is the only time she gets them. If I win I would like the night time ones

My daughter loves to use the computer. When we went full force with potty training I put her in underwear (no diaper) and kept reminding her to use the potty. She had two “pee-pee” accidents that day but that was it. When it came time to “poo-poo” we struggled with her. We promised her 1 hour of computer time on “her websites”. It worked like a charm, we had no more “poo-poo” accidents after we came up with that incentive for her. I would like to try the learning designs for Boys as I will be potty training my son very soon!

Our DD will be 3 in October. We “began” when she was 2. Mind you the version of began was simply putting it in the bathroom. She seemed interested in going and would every once in awhile but we did not push it. We started again a couple of months ago. We tried praise first because I just hated to bribe her! I learned though- we had to bribe! I bought her some stickers at the dollar store and a little holder. They are in the bathroom with one sticker for #1 and two for #2. At first we tried putting stickers on a blank (not even numbers) Dora calendar. We told her after 7 (a whole row) she could pick out a treat (at the Dollar Store). She preferred keeping the stickers as opposed to saving them. The results…she is doing a whole lot better. She will go #1 and #2. She goes by herself and when we ask her. I have not made the transition to big girl panties bc we still have wet pull-ups. But we are on the right track! If we win we would like size 2t cool-alert pullups. Thank you!

    I’d like to try starting!

LOL. I actually wanted to start at a few months, my husband’s mom and his sister told me all day long on our visit how my husband and all of their kids were potty trained well before nine months. My baby was celebrating his first birthday then.

I have the potty but haven’t been consistent. I put him on in the morning. So far he’s good about peeing when Itake off his diaper and put him on his potty - but what he does is sit down for a second and then run into the living room and pee on the floor! I think it would be easier with the Cool Alert Pull ups because I think he would indicate to me that he’s in the process and it would be much easier to pull down rather then unsnap the sides.

I was thinking of keeping treats in the bathroom like stickers and if he evers poops a little gummy shark maybe. He isn’t quite two - he’s twentymonths but I have to try something. I’d love for him to trained by the time I visit his family again!

We tried everything with our children and then realized that it was all up to them. Realizing this has made it so much easier with our grandchildren! Of course, we still expose them to others going potty and give rewards when they do go themselves but in the end again, when they are ready they will do it all the time!

I think it’s important to have the night time training pants … potty training’s not just for daytiime anymore! Try waking the child up and having him/her go just before you go to bed. Unless you all go to bed at the same time that gives them a couple of hours to get rid of the suppertime milk! (Usually they don’t actually ‘wake up’) - they just go like little zombies.

  • Heather B

I have potty trained two children one boy and one girl. The best way I have found to do it is in the summer, because they can get their clothes on and off easy, and because you can be in the yard where there is less mess to clean up. I just let them go, and go and they learn to go in the potty after several attempts.

When my daughter watches her potty video, she does great. Then they talk about wiping and she runs to the bathroom and ruins the roll of toilet paper, unrolling 50 feet of it, etc…so I started saving rolls when they were almost used up and when she is “training” I give her a roll of her own and it has worked out really well.

I brought her a small potty that uses music and has a handle for “flushing” At first she just saw it as a toy but now she will go to it and sit on it for a few seconds with her clothes on.
I am not sure how I am going to do her potty training when she turns two which is why I am researching now.
I want to use the Huggies feel and learn pull ups.

What worked for my oldest child was having a tonka truck as a prize on display and stickers added when he would have success in the toilet. We had an addaptive toilet seat instead of a potty chair.

My son just started walking, and I plan to buy a potty soon just to get him used to the idea of it being there.

I know that aside from that, I’ll just have to go off of his cues for readiness and use lots of patience and rewards!

We just started potty training. We watched the Elmo Potty Dvd many times. I am trying to talk her into using the potty like Elmo does.

I’ve been giving my daughter sticker and candy rewards. I believe in rewarding good behavior and NOT punishing accidents. She is doing fairly well but still has a few accidents now and then. I would like to try the Cool Alerts brand.

When I potty trained my oldest daughter, she loved fancy frilly things. I purchased fancy frilly underwear for her and when she would go three times without having a mishap, she would get the pair. She would always know what ones she was working for. Today I think the character underwear would work too. It worked with her well. I did not have a problem with my second one.

With my older daughter, we waited until she was three and then just stopped using diapers all at once and she did fine - no accidents. I would like to try the cool alerts with my son and start him earlier.

We’re just starting to train our youngest. We’ve been talking about it & reading stories about it. The biggest problems are usually getting them to lose the fears of the unknown and getting them to stop playing long enough to do the deed.

I’m just going to try to keep in mind that accidents happen, it’ll be a learning experience for both of us, and she’s not intentionally failing to go in the potty.

I think I’d like to try the Cool Alerts.

With my first son I always rewarded him for going potty or even just trying to go. After a while he got the hang of things. He’s four now and does everything by himself. My youngest will be getting ready for the potty soon I would like to try the Cars learning designs. THANKS!

When my son starts potty training i’m going to try to put something in the toilet such as cheerios, and he has to try to aim at them. ( IT sounds gross, but it might work,)

I put cheerios in the toilet and tell my son to try and sink them when he goes.

We are nonchalantly trying to potty train. A friend told me she just let her daughter go pantless–and she was trained in a few days. I tried that with our almost-two-year-old, but not persistantly. I’ve offered candy as a treat for going, but I think she’s just not ready, so we’re letting up for now…Some pullups would be great though!

I have an almost 4 year old son who is on the autistic spectrum. He has been extremely difficult to train. Needless to say we go through many pull ups. I have tried sticker books while on the potty which seems to keep his attention span to sit there but, he still isn’t getting it. I really think the DVD will help him since he is so motivated by videos to help him understand. We like the learning designs or cool alert 3T-4T.

With the first two we tried everything from praise and rewards, to playing music while they were on the potty…having learned from the mistake of running tap water to promote urinating. My mother did that with us and I’m living proof that running tap water when I’m doing the dishes prompts to go to the bathroom. This time out…we will let nature (hers) determine when she is ready. I sometimes think parents are pressured to meet artificial benchmarks set by so-called experts or even other parents…when they should get to know their own children better.

Training my son was very simple. He started it on his own at 2. Now he is 3 and needs me to wipe his butt, I need a way to teach him to do it himself. Also h pees when he sleeps so I got to go the salvation army for pullups once a month cause I can not afford them, so I wish he had better controll when sleeping, any ideas???
