Momma’s Coffee Break
Last week’s Coffee Break turned out so well, I wanted to try again. Remember we can chat about anything, however just to help people out I’ll also give a theme. We’ve been talking about mothers going to work this past week, so if you are one or maybe you’ve decided just to go out. How did you find a sitter or day care provider?
Let’s Chat….

We don’t really go out much, but when we do, we usually trade kids with friends. One weekend we watch their kids the next weekend they watch ours. That way we both get some time away and no one has to pay for a sitter.
Happy Friday! It is a gorgeous sunny day today.

Oh, that’s always a tough question for new moms!
I’m far from a new mom, my “baby” is graduating from high school this year, but I do remember having to look for sitters.
When my children were young, I was still working as an RN, so I tried to arrange my work schedule so they’d have sitters as little as possible. Before they started school, I worked evening shifts and weekends. That way, I could use a teen ager after school to bridge the gap from when I had to leave to when my husband came home.
Looking for a sitter is - I found - best done by word of mouth. Advertising can work, but I think we feel more comfortable if we know that someone else has been working with the sitter.
It’s tough though because you know that who you hire is really based on your gut and you have to pray that your gut is right.

Char- love the idea. Honestly we don’t go out unless it is with the kids. We don’t live near family and haven’t really met too many neighbors.
Marijke- Word of mouth I think is the best. After all you don’t want to just grab a number off a telephone pole.
For myself, we used a service on base when we were military. Friday night care, (we only did it a few times) it was a daycare that for $2 an hour they’d watch your kids. We loved it because they had cameras right there so you could see everything going on. Don’t think I’d allow my kids to go to one that didn’t.
