My Gift List

by kate baggott on November 26th, 2007

Gayla at Mom Gadget has assembled a great gift guide for the holiday season. I have been so stressed out by my day jobs and obsession with Project Blog that I forgot to contribute. While I am not a big shopper, I do like to give gifts. This year, charitable donations to causes my love ones find important and hand made presents are making up the bulk of my spending.

Someone special is getting something custom made by my close friend, the lovely and talented Jennifer Morris.

Someone recently gave me an iPod with SuperMom engraved on the back. I like it so much, I am pitching in on a group gift to get one for someone else.

I have many friends whose children aren’t sleeping through the night. Pantley’s program doesn’t always work, but either does anything else and this is the best solution I know of.

My little boy is obsessed with Playmobile Pirates. I hate all the little pieces and, here in Germany, I find this toy is very over-priced. I don’t want to buy it, but I might have to. If I do, it means the kid isn’t getting much else.

I have ordered a pirate puppet something like this. Puppet shows are a big deal here in Germany and my boy loves to both watch them and perform them. I like the emphasis on language development and creativity puppets inspire. So my daughter is getting something like this one:

If I had the space, I would order this for both kids to share.

Supporting my children’s cooperation through play is hugely important to me. I dream that one day my children will be creative collaborators, like the Coen brothers, only not as weird.

I still need some suggestions about what to get my husband. Any ideas?

P.S. Honey, if you don’t know what to get me, my wish list is here.

We had a great puppet theatre. It was vinyl that hung from a tension rod you could mount in any doorway, then easily take down and roll up small for storage. You could make one yourself, with some fabric and a rod. No sewing would be required, unless you wanted to - the width of a standard bolt of fabric will fill a doorway, so you’d just need to cut out an opening for the puppets. You could staple the top over the rod.
