Protection & Fresh Breath

A new birth control pill has just hit the market. It has the same composition of hormones as regular birth control pills, but it has one key difference. It’s chewable and monty-fresh. Femcom Fe will be marketed to women who often forget to take their pills, says an article in the Globe and Mail about the launch of the pill.
- According to a number of studies, one-third to nearly one-half of women on birth control pills miss one or two per month, increasing their chances of pregnancy. With perfect use of combination pills, containing both estrogen and progestin, 0.1 per cent of users become pregnant each year, compared with the 3 per cent to 8 per cent rate studies have found with typical use.
Taking the pill is such an innocuous experience for so many women that it’s hoped the act of chewing and tasting will help them remember. Birth control pills are the most effective form of birth control as long as women remember to take at the same time every day. Forgetting or delaying the pills by as few as four hours, taking antibiotics and some other forms of prescription medication all call for back up birth control methods for the rest of the month.
