The Pregnancy Pact

by Eliza on June 20th, 2008

Ya’ll know I like posting about the news and I’ve been dismissing this one all morning but I can’t any longer and while it doesn’t deal with babies or moms it does deal with it. What’s that mean? Well it deals with getting pregnant, so everything else comes after.

Okay in the news apparently a huge group of teens decided to make a pregnancy pact. Can you believe this?

There are 17 pregnant girls that go to Gloucester High School that all took a pregnancy pact with one another. When a local high school clinic realized the trend they began looking into it, especially when some seemed down about not being pregnant. This is where the story got interesting and the news picked it up.

The town is torn by what is really going on, some believe the girls made a pact. Others, like Mayor Carolyn Kirk, believes it just happened because the town’s been declining and their are no health classes.

What will happen to these 17 girls that are pregnant? Do they all have support? A future? You also have to look at who is the father? Does he want to be a part of his baby’s life? If he’s older will he be charged? There are many questions I’m sure the town will try to figure out in the next few months. Are these teens following recent movies and movie stars like, Juno or Jamie Lynn Spears?

Each hour today, we are blogging for charity. Please consider making a donation to The Children’s Hunger Fund. You will helping to feed a child.

Don’t blame Juno or Jamie Lynn Spear. At least Juno was responsible enough to handle it and seek parents who wanted the child. As far a Jamie Lynn Spear at least she has her boyfriend who is standing by her side and her baby. Do these girls have any of this. Parents teach you children moral values. School need to give structure and supervision. Government needs to stop giving so much help like medicare, Wic, food stamps, welfare, daycare, etc to these girls. Keep them under the watch of their parents still or put them in group homes.

It was pretty jaw-dropping. I do post about teen pregnancies on womb within because I think there are a lot of health issues that aren’t thought about when it comes to teen pregnancies. Many teens don’t get the proper prenatal care because either they’re hiding their pregnancies or they can afford it (as well as other reasons). Their lifestyle choices aren’t always the best, more so than older women it’s been found and then, there’s the “are they ready for the responsibility”.

If a teen gets pregnant by accident and then decides to keep the child, that is a totally different situation than if a bunch of them make a pact to do so.

I hope that it all turns out well, but in this society, most teens, just aren’t ready for it.

    Yolie-

Good call. It is the parent’s responsibility. I’ll be interested to see this show, Baby Borrowers. Supposed to address teen pregnancy. Hopefully it will show how really difficult parenthood is.
