Things Kids Say

by Eliza on October 6th, 2008

BalletGirl has this thing about telling me things that have happened to her. Here is the latest:

“Mom, did you know I picked you?”

I kind of look up and say oh okay. But she gets that I don’t either believe her or know what she’s saying.

“No really mom. I picked you.”

I’m a bit confused and say okay. Why’d ya pick me.

“Well I was somewhere else and I was looking at all the teenagers and saw you. I knew you’d be my mom.”

I realize she’s talking about picking me to be her mom, before she was born. Honey, you were born later though. Hey, I was curious what she’d say.

She shrugs her shoulders like, duh and responds, “Yeah, I had to pick you twice. I waited in the room and then a few years later they asked if I wanted you still and I knew I did and then I went into your tummy.”

All I could say was, “Wow, I’m glad you picked me.” I mean what do you say to something like that, right?

What has your kid said to you lately? eliza.ferree@b5media.com

My 4 yr old granddaughter was talking with her almost 6 yr old brother about behavior that is not appropriate. I was faulted for going out with wet hair-in her world that is inappropriate.

    I guess if that’s the worst I do I’m okay. :-)

My daughter once said something along the similar line of picking me to be her mommy. She was barely three. She said she picked me out of all the other mommies. I got shivers.

My nephew comes out with some funny ones lately, he told me girls were gross (he’s 5) so I asked if I was gross, he said “your not a girl, your a lady”

nothing too crazy to give me shivers but my son said the other day “listen, i dont make the rules but we have to live by them” lol I think he got that from school

I’m having so much fun blog hopping for Blogtoberfest! :)

My daughter’s not old enough to talk yet, so I don’t have any stories but I love stories like this and truly believe the kids are telling the truth. I think they picked us.

well I feel lucky when they say stuff like that- makes you feel like you did something right even when eveything else is going wrong.
One of my younger ones heard me say awhile ago to one of my grown ones- I put you into this world..and I can take you out and he ran over and said nomamma he cannot fit back up there and he doesn’t want to go—-oh no- he took it another way but it was cute

My baby girl knows i’ve been having a hard time with finances. So, she came up to me one night (she was supposed to be in bed) and said “I wuv you mommy” then she gave me a card that had play Monopoly money in it and it said “Here’s money for you.” I cried so hard. Ever since then, I look at that card if I ever feel down and smile and I know things will be okay.

    That is SO sweet!!

When I was pregnant with my surrogate son (so my friend’s son, but I carried him for them). My then 3 y/o daughter pointed to my belly one night and said, “Look, you come out and you have to go home.. you can’t stay here!”

She was SERIOUS about us not keeping him, lol!

My preschooler talks about playing Aliens and Astronauts outside during playtime. I asked him who were the Astronauts and who were the Aliens. He replied “The boys are the Astronauts, of course. The girls are the Aliens but they don’t know it.”

Awh, she’s a keeper! My daughter said something hilarious just awhile back. Grandpa had called us one night to ask if we would help dig up potatoes in the morning. Before bedtime we asked our daughter if she would like to help Grandpa dig potatoes. She looked at us with a funny face and said, “No, its too late. It’s dark outside.” Gotta watch the wording with her!

When my daughter was in kindergarten I was listening to her talk to our little dog. She was telling him how smart he was and how cute he was, etc. This went on for 20 minutes. I went in her room and asked her what she was doing and she said she wanted Scooter to feel good about himself. Apparently the teacher had been talking about self esteem that day. So cute!

Wow…What a heart-melter! Being that my 2 year old’s vocabulary is not that extensive, I just have a funny tidbit to share. Last Sunday at church, right in the middle of the sermon,my little man starts blurting out “Boobie” and pointing at my boobs! Gotta love those “crawl under the pew” moments!LOL!

When my son was three he told me he saw God before he was born. I asked what He looked like and he told me He wore a blue suit. I found this amazing since we had never taken him to church or discussed God much.

Back in July after returning home from having child #3 and of course I still had a pooch, my son (3yrs) looks at the baby then at my belly and says “2 Kams”. Asking if there would be another Kameron still in there.

  • Christina
    Oct 7, 2008 at 6:31 am

I was telling my niece that I felt badly (from a recently-emerged chronic illness) and thought that it affected how I looked - and she told me that to her I would always look radiant and about the same age (which was the age her mother had been when she died when she was 8)! I realized this meant that not only did she accept me unconditionally, ill or not, but that she felt as close to me as she would have thought she’d been with her mother!

Music to my ears: when my grown child asks, “How’d you ever do it mom?”

  • Kate
    Oct 7, 2008 at 12:55 pm

My son is so used to responding to us saying “I love you” that now he says “I love you too Mom” or “I love you too Dad” spontaniousely instead of in response.. I got home the other day and walk in the door and hear “Mommy’s home, I love you too Mom” from the basement. It just makes my heart happy and my soul sing to hear those words from him, he was a delayed talker (didn’t start until he was 3) so this is the reward for being so patient and waiting so long. He is truly my sunshine!

Ahhh how funny! I give my children the opposite story. When they are mad at me, I tell them…”Hey, you must have been misbehaving if God sent you to me…the world’s meanest mom!” That always ends the comments, because they cannot stand it when I call myself the world’s meanest mom and seem to take pride in it! LOL! Most of the time they think I am so sweet, but it is amazing when they are disciplined that they decide I am mean. ROFL! As if that is going to make me let them get away with their behavior. They seem to know so early on that we want them to treasure us.

The most wonderful feeling was after months of my teen only grunting or even snarling at me over everything one day he suddenly gave me a hug and said ” I love you mom.”
    Wonder what caused that.

Hi… I can’t help but wonder, Can they really do that? Can they remember? One day my 4 y/o son said to his dad: I remember when I was in mummy’s belly, it was warm… and I liked it there…
I’m not sure if they really can, but if not… they really do have a great imagination!!!
