Update on Pregnancy Pact

by Eliza on June 21st, 2008

Yesterday I posted a story during the blog-off about 17 teen girls that made a pregnancy pact to get pregnant this school year.

Currently the police are trying to find out who the 17 fathers are and determine if any will be charged. While the world may be in shock I can only imagine the parents of these teens and the possible boys that had no clue.

To me, pregnancy is something that you are suppose to enjoy. It’s a gift and something that should be treasured. But for these 17 girls that just “wanted to raise a baby together” have changed that. Not only that I can’t help but wonder if these 17 boys knew they were planning this.

Imagine the boys being told that the girl was on birth control pills or the shot. Or maybe used a condom but she poked holes in it, etc. If these girls were this determined I wonder if they tried having sex with others to get pregnant and if that is the case how will they be able to prove who the father is.

Right now there are many pointing to the 24-year-old homeless man that got one of the girls pregnant. I am all against rape, but this really doesn’t sound like it.

I really do hope this is fair and not a witch hunt for the boys. Remember people it was a pact these girls made, they fully intended to get pregnant. What’s your thoughts?

    Two feelings I have:

    1 - The poor not-yet-born babies.

2 - I’m so scared to send my girls to school.

Well if none of the boys knew. Then by all means this should strictly fall on the girls themselves. Yes all the responsiblity on the girls and certainly not on government programs.

Wow, when I first heard this story yesterday I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I mean, how cool is it that a group of girls 16 and under were able to coordinate a mass pregnancy. SEVENTEEN people??? Awesome! I can’t even get FOUR friends of mine to agree on a place and time to get dinner, let alone start families. (And we’re 40)
Seriously, these girls have shown an incredible amount of foresight and planning that will totally be of use to them in the business world. So many people my age are apathetic and have no motivation. It so refreshing to hear a case of kids younger than me getting together, setting a goal, and moving 100% towards that goal. Decisiveness is a rare thing and these girls have it. If only our government had a fraction of the creativity and resourcefulness these girls have shown in getting pregnant we might actually have jobs and working public institutions.

How much more enjoyable does it get? Each one of those girls has SIXTEEN people to bitch about swelling and morning sickness to. I had ZERO. They have a support group that is large and will last - dude. What a great way to get pregnant.

They’ll also have childcare. Talk about taking a village. 17 is a great village size LOL

Yowza. I had heard/read that one of the “Fathers” may be a 20-something homeless man. Problem is, with the news the way it is these days, it’s hard to tell what’s real and what isn’t.

I do believe about the pact though because the school personnel said that some of the girls went for multiple pregnancy tests.

What, are you people stupid or something. Who and the hell are you all praising. These girls are children having children, that is stupid. They might be smart enough to coordinate a mass pregnancy, but are to stupid to understand the responsibility that comes with have children.

Lets see, these kids are most likely going to quit school and get on welfare, anybody that has there head in reality here, knows that a minimum wage job does not support anything or anybody. I have a bunch of children of my own and I wouldn’t financially support these kids if they were my own. These girls decided to make an ADULT decision to have sex and get pregnant. Now let them take the responsibility for their actions, stop blaming the boys alone, it takes two consenting (in this case) children to make a baby.

The town isn’t responsible for teaching other peoples children about sex, having children, or any other moral values, that is the parents job, and they can only do so much, kids have to listen and obviously theirs didn’t.

Oh, let’s see, they are going to start a village, how funny, next the are going to move to Texas and call themselves The Pregnancy Pact of Irresponsible Teens aka A CULT.

Father time, it’s nice to see a male way into this. I’ve heard many women talk about it (no-one thinking it is a good idea) but you are the first man I have seen write about it.

I agree with you - I think it’s stupid, stupid, stupid. But, that’s what often happens when girls grow up thinking that this is ok. I mean, it has to be ok if schools offer pregnancy tests. Yikes. In my little Canadian mind, it never occured to me that a school would offer pregnancy tests.

I have to imagine that many of these children will end up in foster care or being adopted because of this. Most of these girls will not be able to raise these children and a logical solution for them could be adoption. However, I would hate to tell them how the child was conceived.

These are 16 and 17 year-old women. They aren’t “children”, they are young adults. It seems to me that they are going about it with a fair amount of maturity. They have developed a very large support network - one that is far larger than any I have ever had, and I’m raising 3 kids.

Some have called this a cult - this isn’t entirely inaccurate, but it doesn’t seem to be all that fair of a description either. In their case, it seems that society is trying to force them into seclusion by ostracizing, insulting, and degrading them.

Who is to say that these women can’t raise their children in a safe, loving, and nurturing environment? The kids won’t ever be lonely, that’s for sure.

I think it’s crazy! But then, I waited until I was 34 before having my first baby. (And that was just perfect.)

Ughhh. What a disturbing story. They should be forced to watch Baby Borrowers. That would scare them straight.

Glad I don’t live in Mass., you all will feel it in your pocket books to pay the welfare checks for these girls.

How can anybody be so short sighted to postulate the irrelevant possibility that they will have a great support group and could possibly be loving parents? Last time I checked there are laws against children their age working too many hours so how are they going to be responsible for their children? It may be a little known fact to teenagers and children, but raising a child is a financial nightmare for everyone except the wealthy. These children should be sent to a penal colony! They have destroyed their parents lifes, the “Fathers” lifes,(the physical act doesn’t change the fact that they were just sperm donors) the schools reputation, the communities reputation and the list just keeps getting bigger every time you try to find an excuse to explain why these teens did this. Please for the love of …. don’t try to find a complicated reason for why this happened. Occam’s Razor fits this situation perfectly. Why these girls are pregnant is because they wanted to be pregnant. They have made a totally selfish, self centered, and hubristic decision and they can at least pay the price of being ridiculed as fools. I feel sorry for everybody but them.

    hddshawn:

That’s right, ridicule any decisions you don’t agree with. Insult and degrade people for making their own choices. That’s real big of you.

These girls aren’t ruining anyone’s lives. They’ve made certain decisions, and if they get the kind of support that any of us can reasonably expect (and it looks like they will get far more than that, based on the size of the group they’ve assembled) they will do just fine.

I said earlier: “In their case, it seems that society is trying to force them into seclusion by ostracizing, insulting, and degrading them. ”

    Looks like I was right.

You make me sick. I was having an absolutely pleasant day, and now, after reading your comment, I want to vomit. A PENAL COLONY? Go piss up a rope.
