What Advice Did You Get?
When your baby was first born what advice did you get that you loved the most? What advice did you get that proved not to be very helpful? I know we all deal with those know-it-alls that think they could write a book on the subject just because they’ve seen a television show about a baby or have one child themselves.
Things I loved:
- I was told that a mother tends to have mother’s intuition and it has proven to be very true. This person told me to trust my instincts when it comes to my kids and it shouldn’t fail me. It’s been a great thing. Do you have it?
- Every child is different. I love this because it is so true and I’ve seen that with each one, more of my most recent as he’s doing everything the others did not.
Things I hated:
- Everyone goes through it
- Don’t worry about the fever unless it gets over…. this is not always true a fever can be dangerous whether it is high or low it just depends what else is going on with it.
- Give him alcohol to make him go to sleep. I kid you not I was told this when my son was teething. Keep in mind my son started cutting teeth at two months old.
Each hour today, we are blogging for charity. Please consider making a donation to The Children’s Hunger Fund. You could be helping feed a child.

The worst– Don’t allow him to stand on my lap. He’ll become bowlegged. Oh, and don’t cosleep. And it’s time to wean. Um yeah. Right.
The best– do what works for you.

Yes I hate the, you should wean by now. If you don’t wean they’ll never get off you. If you don’t wean you’ll make him into a momma’s boy.
Thanks for commenting Maria.

Well my longest was weaned right around her third birthday. I made that happen as I was due the following month.

The best advice (but hard to follow) is sleep when the baby sleeps. I’m still in the postpartum period, and this is SO important for survival!

Hi Cami, thanks for commenting. I agree it is so important. The only time I slept was when my little man went to sleep. With four kids it becomes even harder, thankfully the oldest can do most things on their own for an hour nap. ie, they grab the joysticks to the video game and say, “Mom you can sleep.”
