Babylune

Year One

by kate baggott on January 11th, 2007

The Berenstain Bears and Too Much Birthday (First Time Books(R))
Today, marks one year since the first ever babylune post.

It’s been a year full of milestones for baby, blog and I.

In January the baby learned how to lie on her stomach when awake while I did gentle exercises on the floor beside her. Eventually, I got over the long list of discomforts birth brings to all women.

Kind words from a friend in February reminded me how much mothers need other mothers to talk to.

My first soloflight with two kids came in March when we visited my family in Canada. Back in Germany my husband almost wept when the bill for a 500 EURO car repair bill arrived with my first blogging cheque for 66 cents.

April should have brought springtime and relief from cabin fever. Instead, I was readjusting to life in Germany and feeling stressed out enough to find these easy tips for dealing with it. The baby also started rolling over.

Spring fashions left me feeling defensive in May, but I also wanted to give everyone some reassurance.

In June, I tried to increase traffic by referring to celebrity mothers. It was more successful than talking about sex!

While I’ve never been the coolest blogger on the block, I was popular in July when I told mothers to do the healthy thing and neglect the housework.

Then our family went to Bulgaria and, true to my lazy nature, went on vacation. I spent most of August away from a computer screen. It was my longest break from technology in more than ten years.

Like most people, I got serious in September. I vowed to stop using celebrity mothers to increase traffic. Instead, I focussed on the very real issues of birth control, vitamins and Britney Spears. I also went back to work and left a trail of breast milk everywhere I went.

The Healthy and Fit Family Carnival was born in October and I invented a new phrase.

I learned how to say goodbye properly in November and while I was out I learned a lot about reading, disguises, and finding the toilet where ever I might be.

December brought all the lovely holiday stuff, encouragement for mothers-to-be to get tough, and a fool proof way to survive a whining emergency.

365 days, almost 450 posts, over 30,000 visitors. I don’t think that’s a bad start at all.

[…] The Carnival of Family Life is up at More 4 Kids. I’ve been reading past the typos about our birthday (blogging software, including the one I use, really need spell checkers) as well as the birthday traditions of other blogging parents. It’s a celebratory issue. New Years Eve and family dining issues are all fun. […]
