Young Parenthood Pays Off
If you’re a young mother, but not a teen mom, you probably feel a bit out of place these days.
In many places, there are two groups of typical new mom communities. One built up around an average age of 16 and another group with an average age of 36. And yet, choosing to have a baby, or a few, in your twenties is completely normal. At least, it was a generation ago.
If it’s any consolation, according to an article in USA Today’s Health Scout, your children may have a better chance of living longer because of your age:
- The odds of living to 100 and beyond double when a person is born to a woman under 25 years of age, compared to those people born to older mothers, according to one of the most rigorous studies on the subject yet conducted.
Since my mother was 23 when I was born, I hope this benefit will extend to me too.
